Super Snake SS010
SS010 came to us from a Ford Dealership that was checking it out for a poor running condition and after checking the basics they realized that was not their run of the mill 60’s Mustang and needed specialized attention.  After a phone call to Shelby Automobiles they were put in touch with us.   During our initial inspection we found that a failure inside the distributor was allowing the timing to swing approximately 40*-50* while the engine was running but that wasn’t the end of its concerns.  Discussion with the owner confirmed it suffered from all of the chronic issues and although he loved the car it wasn’t enjoyable to drive due to the issues. The original plan was to address the basic needs to get the vehicle back to solid running dpriving condition as the original owner was in the process of selling the vehicle.

First we needed to address the internal engine issues. SS010 was built with an early Shelby built Supercharged FE with 11.0:1 flat top pistons. The cylinder heads were stock unported Shelby aluminum heads contributing to the lack of power and overheating concerns as we have discovered on other Super Snakes. In addition to the compression issue this engine was also equipped with the defective rocker shafts also found on early FE’s. Between the improperly tuned digital 7 ignition and the defective distributor the starter teeth had been damaged due to cranking with excessive timing. There were signs of head gasket seepage and we found a piece of debris inside cylinder #6 while inspecting for piston damage with a boroscope.

While in process of our standard upgrades the new owner decided to have upgrade SS010 with our V7 Intercooled, EFI Super Snake Supercar Package with CNC ported Edelbrock cylinder heads and matching EFI intake manifold. In addition to the engine work will also be upgrading the vehicle with our 3” exhaust, upgraded oil cooler, dual disk clutch, upgraded cooling system, power brake upgrade, and suspension rework. We will keep you posted as the project progresses!

SS010 has come a long way since our last project update.   Our early build 468ci All Aluminum Shelby FE block has been re-machined, re-balanced, fitted with more blower friendly 8.8:1 pistons, and topped off with CNC ported Edelbrock cylinder heads and EFI intake manifold provided by our friends at Gessford Machine.   Once the engine assembly is completed our new dual disk clutch system will be custom fitted to the new Tremec TKO 600 being installed to replace the original Tremec 3550.

With our engine assembly is in its final stages, our revitalized FE power plant will soon be ready to punish the pavement.  To feed the fuel to our forced induction FE we have custom wired our new FAST XFI sequential fuel injection system triggered by a custom modified MSD distributor and our own custom design adaptors to mount an MSD crank trigger.  We purchase all of our wiring harnesses unterminated and custom fit every harness we install.

Our new upgraded fuel system is plumbed.  Our new power brake system has been installed and plumbed.  Our upgraded engine and power steering oil cooler system is ready to cool some oil.  Our parking brake system works.  With SS010 being an early build Snake it was originally outfitted with a Total Control Products suspension.  We updated it with a new set of Vari-Shocks in the correct lengths from our friends at Chris Alston Chassis Works, the parent company of TCP.

Fabrication of our custom intercooler system has begun.  Our high flow KN air filter feeds cold air to the large V7 Vortech through a massive 4” intake tube.  We mounted the intercooler behind the factory G.T.  500 E body work with minor modifications and routed the intercooler tubing down inside the aprons.  As with everything we build, the entire intercooler system will be completely flanged and removable for service as necessary.  To us, a well built custom vehicle should be able to be disassembled for service without causing damage to its parts.

Currently ongoing is the fabrication of our 3” exhaust system to help our blown FE breathe. Fitting a 3” exhaust system under the floor and above the subframe bracing while avoiding the suspension on these cars is no easy task.  The complete exhaust system is being built completely serviceable with flanges at all joints.  After fabrication is complete the entire system will be removed and ceramic coated to match the original JBA headers.  Once the drive train is reinstalled into the chassis the exhaust and intercooler fabrication will be completed.

New Pictures will be posted soon!
