Super Snake SS010
SS010 came to us from a Ford Dealership that was checking it out for a poor running condition and after checking the basics they realized that was not their run of the mill 60’s Mustang and needed specialized attention.  After a phone call to Shelby Automobiles they were put in touch with us.   During our initial inspection we found that a failure inside the distributor was allowing the timing to swing approximately 40*-50* while the engine was running but that wasn’t the end of its concerns.  Discussion with the owner confirmed it suffered from all of the chronic issues and although he loved the car it wasn’t enjoyable to drive due to the issues. The original plan was to address the basic needs to get the vehicle back to solid running dpriving condition as the original owner was in the process of selling the vehicle.

First we needed to address the internal engine issues. SS010 was built with an early Shelby built Supercharged FE with 11.0:1 flat top pistons. The cylinder heads were stock unported Shelby aluminum heads contributing to the lack of power and overheating concerns as we have discovered on other Super Snakes. In addition to the compression issue this engine was also equipped with the defective rocker shafts also found on early FE’s. Between the improperly tuned digital 7 ignition and the defective distributor the starter teeth had been damaged due to cranking with excessive timing. There were signs of head gasket seepage and we found a piece of debris inside cylinder #6 while inspecting for piston damage with a boroscope.

While in process of our standard upgrades the new owner decided to have upgrade SS010 with our V7 Intercooled, EFI Super Snake Supercar Package with CNC ported Edelbrock cylinder heads and matching EFI intake manifold. In addition to the engine work will also be upgrading the vehicle with our 3” exhaust, upgraded oil cooler, dual disk clutch, upgraded cooling system, power brake upgrade, and suspension rework. We will keep you posted as the project progresses!
